Let’s talk about lipstick! Lately everyone wants bigger lips, and everyone is lining their lips to get that pouty look. My lips are naturally big, but I still know a thing or two about achieving the “perfect” lip! But of course, makeup doesn’t make you beautiful, you are already beautiful on your own. In my opinion, makeup should just enhance your natural features that you already love about yourself. Growing up I was self conscious of my lips, but I have grown to love them.
A good lip liner is meant to make your lipstick last and stay on all day. It doesn’t need to be obvious either. With the right color nobody will even know that you’re wearing it, if you don’t want them to. Think of lipstick like a crayon, and the lip liner is what’s keeping you drawing inside the lines. It prevents your lipstick from smudging, and keeps the natural curves of your lip defined for a look that pops.
There’s no reason to be afraid of lip liner! Choose a lip liner that matches your natural lip color, or the color of your lipstick. All you need to do is draw along your lips! You don’t need to be over the top and exaggerate the lines. Sometimes over-drawing your lips can be a huge makeup no-no! Less is more. If you’re feeling brave, a color one shade darker than your lipstick will give your lips a faux-plump look. There are also nude pencils that you can use to apply a highlight to your cupid’s bow, or other areas you want to accentuate.
The secret to having perfect lipstick is to carefully apply concealer around your lips, outlining your lipstick. You can use a small brush and a very slow hand to clean up around the edges. It smooths any smudges and gives your lips the perfect shape. This is especially helpful when wearing red lipsticks, which everyone knows can be a nightmare to apply!
I personally go for natural looking lips most of the time, it’s what I’m comfortable with and it’s easy. A pretty nude or a blush pink is perfect for wearing everyday in my opinion. Brown shades have been really trendy lately, along with dark mauves. I always get a little nervous when wearing red lips, but you can’t deny they’re a classic.
