Hey guys! so I travel a lot and over the years I’ve picked up a few tips that I hope will help you. Airports and flying can be overwhelming and scary, long flights can be boring and exhausting …but there are ways to make it more bearable!
I know it sounds impossible but PACK LIGHTLY! I always tend to overpack and become overwhelmed. Trust me, you’re not even going to need half the things you think you might. And if you’re like me, you’re going to end up shopping while you’re on vacation anyway! The most efficient way to make sure you don’t overpack is to lay out each outfit you’re going to wear on your trip- with accessories and shoes included. Having options is nice, but being organized is better. When you only bring exactly what you’re actually going to wear you’re less likely to have a super messy hotel room and lose things! P.S. Rolling your clothes up instead of folding them saves a ton of space and prevents wrinkles!
The airport is not a fashion show, so dress comfortably for your flight. I know, I know. What if there’s a cute boy sitting near you? It’s not the end of the world! You’ll be much more comfy on a long flight when you’re in sweats with a blanket. Avoid uncomfortable fabrics like denim, and pick cotton instead. High waisted jeans are not your friend. Also make sure to choose sensible shoes! You’ll end up standing in the security line for a lot longer than expected, and your feet will thank you later. You don’t want to be that girl running through the airport in heels!!
Make sure to arrive a few hours before your flight so you can go through all the airport procedures without feeling rushed. Feeling like you may miss your flight is the worst, so just prepare ahead. Having the extra time to sit down and eat something before you take off is a nice break after the craziness of going through security. Nobody wants to feel frazzled at the airport, and the extra time will make you feel less stressed.
This one should be obvious, but bring things to entertain yourself! Not all planes will have a fancy screen to watch movies. I always bring some magazines and pick out a new book to read, and my little brother brings video games. Your iPod or laptop will make the flight go much faster, so listen to music or get some homework done to pass the time!
When you’re on a longer flight, you’re gonna need to eat. Airplanes don’t usually have the best food, so It’s smart to bring some snacks just in case. Granola or trail mix is a great choice because it’ll keep you energized and feeling full. I always bring water or juice with me too. The air inside airplanes is usually really dry, so staying hydrated is important.
Most important of all, stay calm and relaxed. Traveling is stressful for everyone so be kind to the people around you and don’t let it get the best of you! Not everyone you encounter is going to be friendly in such a hectic environment, ignore them. If your flight gets delayed, don’t freak out! Everything works out exactly as it should.
